Make a wish

A music video mixtape for a birthday party

Type a line about the birthday person, like "Sam's 30th, lots of 2000s pop", and you'll get a tape of music videos they'd have picked themselves. You can put their name on the screen before the first song.

When to put it on

  1. 01

    Before anyone shows up

Put it on while you're still blowing up balloons, so it's already playing when the first guests walk in.

  2. 02

    Cake time

The last song is a big one, and it plays all the way through. That's your cue to bring out the cake.

  3. 03

    The next morning

Send the link to the group chat. Anyone can watch it again for free, and it'll still be there next year.

Questions

What music should I play at a birthday party?
Play whatever the birthday person would put on themselves. Start with the songs from their high school years (that's where most people's favorites come from), add the artists they never skip, then a few songs the whole room knows. Type that into Audiotape in a line, like "Sam's 30th, lots of 2000s pop", and you get a tape of the official music videos.
Can I put their name on the tape?
Yes. Give the tape a name, pick a cassette color and an opening, and write a dedication like "For Sam's 30th". It's the first thing on the screen.
Does it work for kids' birthdays?
Yes. Put "kids" in your idea, like "A 7th birthday dance party". Tapes are clean unless you choose Explicit, so you get the clean version of each video. For a game, print Tape Bingo cards. Kids look for things in the videos, and the first to get five in a row wins.

Make a tape of your own
